Using Customer Profiles to Inform Design

Scout Mortgage is a boutique mortgage company. They are the mortgage artisans, helping new families, retirees, and new home buyers feel secure in their mortgage lender.

Problem

Scout Mortgage is a company specializing in providing mortgages to homebuyers. This project was particularly exciting because it involved not only a website redesign but also a strategy overhaul. My primary objective was to create a strategy that would help Scout Mortgage to focus on specific clients that would benefit from their services the most.

To do this I needed to focus most heavily on user research. I worked hard on persona development and user flows to ensure that we knew how to direct the design.

This project worked with a cross-functional team. My specialized skills made me the primary resource for:

Conducting extensive market research and analyzing Scout Mortgage's target audience. Learning we needed to focus on two main demographics: experienced homebuyers who have been part of the market for many years, and new homebuyers who are just starting their search for a home. This information guided our approach to the design and user experience of the website.
Creating a basic component library with the stylized buttons, forms, and other site features to pass of to the dev team.
Crafting a moodboard to capture Scout Mortgage's new look.
Making the website user-friendly for all age groups. To accomplish this, I placed a heavy focus on UI/UX design and the sitemap. I aimed to create an interface that was simple, easy to navigate, and provided valuable information for all users.
At the same time, we wanted the design to be modern and trendy, attracting younger demographics while still being accessible to an older audience.
Selecting media that was crucial to the look/feel of the site as I wanted to appeal to both young families and retirees. I focused on images featuring families with children and seniors enjoying their homes. I wanted to create a feeling of warmth and welcoming, inspiring visitors to imagine themselves in their dream home.
Ensuring that the website was fully responsive and optimized for SEO. I also made sure that the site's current SEO was retained, ensuring that it continued to rank well in search engine results and maintain its visibility to potential customers.
